Deborah C. Whittier, CA 1592 10/18/2015 Dr. Miller-Khawam took care of my disabled brother so well that I started visiting her. Her staff is always helpful as well. She took care of an ingrown toe nail with little pain. Also, the custom inserts made for me changed my life and got rid of lower back pain by improving my balance and stabilizing my walk. The doctor asked me to walk up and down the hallway while she observed my walk. Along with great bedside manor, she makes sure you understand everything about your treatment. Most people don't ever visit a podiatrist probably because they don't really understand the benefits and the name sounds weird. Hey, even if you don't think you're having problems, going for a check-up and looking into custom inserts may change your life like it did for me, especially if you do a lot of walking, standing or wear shoes with a tall heel. Note: I also put inserts into my slippers to wear around the house, especially for our tile floors, and that helped me as well. -Deborah C.

I also have fungus on my feet ,but although i was extremely embarrassed they made me feel so at ease, they were so kind in communicating every process that would be taking place with the laser so I really appreciated knowing in advance what I would feel. The staff and Dr khawam are so awesome, i was so nervouss at first but because she was so cheerful ,gentle and caring it helped me to be calm ,so I highly recommend a step above foot care. -Y.A.

Joy B. Long Beach, CA 8115 8/7/2012 Who reviews a foot care business? Who wants to rave about a practice that deals with digits stuffed into shoes or gross-looking infected fingernails? Especially when one is directed to the business via Groupon? I DO - and the doctors and the care at this place were professional, caring, experts in their fields, and perfect in all respects! Okay, so I'm cheap (and often broke), and I purchased a 50% off deal on Groupon to rid myself via laser treatment of a very nasty and highly advanced fungus thumb infection. They were able to accommodate me to have an appointment that weekend, and informed me up front that while they specialize in feet, they do have an associate that works on fingers on the weekends. (Unfortunately, I do not have that MD's card on me so I cannot rave about his terrific bedside manner and his concern with this very nervous patient. - when I find it, I will post separately to give this gentleman the high praise due to him.) At the conclusion of the laser treatment by whoops-I-forgot-his-name, Dr. Miller (who is the principal practitioner of A Step Above) came into my treatment room to discuss my satisfaction of the procedure and also to view the results. While I did not expect to meet the head MD, it was an incredibly welcome act. She also made sure I understood the after-care recommendations, and kept asking if there were any additional questions that I might have had (I didn't, since everyone had previously explained every step to me at least at once, often twice, from the receptionist to both physicians). I do have 3-month and 6-month follow,ups (which are not included in the Groupon at $50 each) but which I will gladly pay due to the incredible treatment that I received. While laser procedures on the fingernail are not fun, every effort was made to put me at ease and continually access my level of pain with the process. Large parking lot for easy access; however, I had to hunt for the front door (it is by the disabled parking [which I use] on the weekends) which is a problem for the building management, and not with the practice. And, as a post note, my brother and nephew are both MDs: I consider the level of treatment that I received at A Step Above Foot Care to be fully equal to the treatment that I receive from them regarding my medical concerns. - Joy B.

All staff is courteous & caring. I would go so far to say Dr. Khawam is also a friend. I am able to schedule appointments on short notice and they always make time for me. J C. Pico Rivera, CA 86927 5/2/2015 It's been about a year since I visited this office for an ingrown toenail removal. I've had a couple in the past and right before coming here I visited a different office for removal of the same ingrown I visited this one for. A couple of months prior to coming into this office I went to another and payed about 300$ to have them remove the ingrown. It was so unbearably painful, I couldn't even hold back my cursing. I left that office and although I was in pain I was relieved the issue was finally fixed. I had had that ingrown for about 6 months and I definitely should not have put it off for so long. Anyway, it turns out that original doctor did NOTHING but cut off a small piece that was digging into my toe and the problem quickly returned. I checked yelp and found this place. I wish I had know about this place before my other ordeal. I paid about the same amount but the quality here was so much better. The doctor was kind and gentle with me. I'm deadly afraid of needles and just the thought of them going into my toe makes me want to cry! She was amazing! She sprayed some numbing substance on the toe prior to the injection and when it was time for my prick I barely felt a thing! The process of the actual removal was completely painless and she even guaranteed her work! A year later and no need to visit again! Although I hope to never see their faces again for another foot problem I would definitely go to them without hesitation if something new were to arise. I will recommend this place to anyone suffering from any kind of foot pain. Please do not wait and suffer when some problems can be very easily fixed. -J.C.
